Let’s hope investors spent the month of July on vacation and not at home looking at their investment portfolios. We saw support levels just melt away during the month of July, and the Marijuana Index saw numbers we hadn’t seen since December 2017. Those heavily invested in the sector, now feel how Cleveland fans felt when Lebron James signed with the Lakers, and feel worst than Tristan Thompson and Khloe’s relationship. With less than 3 months until legalization investors are wondering when will institutional investors start investing in the sector. If we take a look at the past 3 years, yes the sector has seen a regular increase in dilution, but companies have acquired a tremendous amount of assets which will increase their future revenue, and make Canada the world leader in cannabis products.

If we take a look at some of the public Canadian companies trading the past 3 years we can 1) see the trends and roller coaster of share prices 2) see that the now billion dollar companies were once worth a significant amount less 3) cry because we should have invested in these companies earlier, and now live with the fact that we sold some of these companies too quickly.

The month of July definitely had its fair share of news, and we also saw a few new companies trading: CSE:CHM, TSXV:PURE, CSE:SPR, TSXV:EVE, TSXV:RRL, CSE:TOKI, and TLRY. Tilray had investors on an intense roller-coaster ride on their first trading day. The new public sector giant had gained over 1 billion dollars in market cap and was chasing Canopy Growth’s (TSX:WEED) share price. Unfortunately, the volume stopped and investors started taking profits, which makes them join the club of disappointing starts to new publicly traded companies. Isodiol International Inc (CSE:ISOL) did a 10 to 1 reverse, clearly a disappointment for some investors, but if news and revenue continue, with a $132m market cap it’s only a matter of time before we hopefully see an increase in their share price. Namaste Technologies Inc (TSXV:N) was approved their share buyback program and have seen Canaccord starting to buy back cheap shares as they feel Namaste’s share price is at a relatively discounted price. Namaste also announced possible listing to the Nasdaq Exchange, with certain criteria needed to be met, let’s see how this unfolds.  Lastly, Aurora Cannabis Corp (TSX:ACB) completed their acquisition of Medreleaf, with their new amount of outstanding shares they are now worth over 6 billion dollars and have a combined revenue of $28m for their last quarter, which is more revenue then Canopy Growth.

The July top gainers and decliners had a lack of volume and only 1/8 of the sector finished with a positive change in share price. There were a few days where we thought we finally found support, but with further Trump trade war talks, the gains did not last long. Even with the BC government signing supply agreements with 31 different companies, that wasn’t enough for the sector to see an uptrend.

Analysing Canopy Growth’s international footprint there is no reason why there should have been a sharp decline in share price, this is definitely a giant which is finding new ways to add shareholder value. They just announced the approval of a stock split, which will lower their share price and may increase interest from retail investors. Lastly, let’s not forget earlier in the month, they had announced an agreement to acquire Hiku Brands (CSE:HIKU) and announced their acquisition of leading Colombian cannabis company which made them the talk of most investors.

Aurora Cannabis Corp had an extremely busy month, with receiving a License to Sell for their Aurora Vie facility, Dealers License for their Aurora Mountain Facility, Update on their Malta expansion, and Aurora Sky having their first and by now probably their second harvest. With these licences and Medreleaf acquisition, it’s only a matter of time before we see a significant increase in revenue. View here for detail of their facilities.

Fairly new publicly traded Gtec Holdings (TSXV:GTEC) had news of LOI to acquire a 240k sq foot facility, they received their Dealers License for their Zen Lab facility and announced their intent to join the edible and beverage market. Like all new publicly traded companies it sometimes takes time for investors to have confidence in trading in a new company. With now a cultivation and dealers licence on their resume and millions of sq feet of expansion capacity its only a matter of time before we see a positive adjustment in their market cap.

High Hampton (CSE:HC) whose vision is to be California’s largest consolidator in the Cannabis sector, acquired another distribution network this month and finally closed their deal to acquire CALIGOLD. High Hampton now has 4 100% own subsidiaries, and recently announced that they engaged Aurora Larssen Project Inc for design and support of their CoachellaGro Cannabis Cultivation facility. The pieces seem to finally be falling into place for High Hampton and their outstanding shares show they still have room to grow.

Crop Infrastructure Corp (CSE:CROP) we feel had the busiest month. It felt every day the news kept getting bigger and better, from expanding to Italy and now Jamaica, and planting huge amounts of cannabis and hemp, lets hope in the next couple months they start bringing in revenue. Their share price is starting to see consolidation and if you view here their portfolio of brands and properties are not what most 20 cent companies look like and is very impressive.

Clearly, as the sector continues to grow we will start seeing winners and losers and more companies buying out smaller companies. Once legalization hits we will then get a second wave of media/investor’s attention to see what companies have planned for the legalization of edibles. What we definitely have noticed in the 3 years of investing in the MJ Sector is to take your time, be patient and do research before investing in a company. Have a game plan and don’t be shy to take profits once and a while. There are many Facebook groups for new and old investors to join Marijuana Stock Traders and MMJ investing definitely 2 of the oldest that stand out if you want to learn about the sector, don’t be shy to ask advice and talk to other investors in the sector.

July finished with an all-time low of accepted licences, let’s hope August the government starts fast-tracking licenses so we can be ready for the October Legalization.

Disclaimer: we have not bought shares or plan to sell shares in the next 2 days, we are invested in the sector and have not received any compensation for writing this article, for full disclaimer view here.
